Uniform

Broken offer an online ordering service and will post uniform items to your home address. Their shop is in Affinity Devon Outlet Shopping Centre in Bideford. Their staff will have a complete list of the correct uniform for Years 7-9 and for Years 10-11 and for each House.

Formal Academy Uniform
 

• Blazer with school badge - compulsory for Year 10 and Year 11 - only available from Broken.  THIS MUST BE WORN FOR ALL FORMAL YEAR GROUP MEETINGS AND ASSEMBLIES.
  
  

• Grey or burgundy pullover with school badge - compulsory for Years 7*, 8 and 9 - only available from Broken until September 2025. THIS MUST BE WORN FOR ALL FORMAL YEAR GROUP MEETINGS AND ASSEMBLIES.
  
  

• Our uniform supplier, Broken, now exclusively stocks the burgundy jumper, following the transition from grey to burgundy in September 2024. However, during this transitional phase, students who already own a grey jumper may continue to wear it.
  
  

• Tie with house colour stripes - compulsory for all years - only available from Broken (Croyde - yellow, Putsborough - green, Saunton - red and Woolacombe - blue).
  
  

• Plain black formal trousers/shorts or black pleated skirt.
  
  

• Formal white shirt - short or long sleeved.
  
  

• Plain black school shoes.
  
  

• Plain black socks.
  
  

• Hijabs (if worn) to be navy, black or cream.  They must be plain; no patterns or tassels.   

It is recommended that Academy trousers/shorts/skirts should also be purchased directly from Broken. However, should parents/carers wish to purchase these uniform items from an alternative source they must be sure the trousers/shorts/skirts replicate exactly the Broken recommended trousers/shorts/skirts and meet our Academy Uniform Code. Please note: students wearing uniform not meeting this description will be asked to change.

• Identity & Belonging: Uniform fosters a sense of community and equality, reducing distractions and peer pressure.
  
  
• High Standards: Consistency in dress reflects consistency in behaviour and learning.
  
  
• Safety & Practicality: Clear rules ensure students are dressed appropriately for lessons, activities, and health and safety requirements. 

Key Uniform Expectations (Summary) 

• School Bag: Strong and sturdy.
  
  
• Jumpers: Maroon or grey with the Braunton Academy logo (Mandatory for Y7-9, optional for Y10&11).
  
  
• Blazers: Years 10 & 11 must wear a black blazer with logo. Jumpers may be worn underneath but not instead of blazers.
  
  
• Shirts & Ties: Formal white shirt with house-colour striped tie.
  
  
• Bottoms: Tailored plain black trousers, shorts, or skirt (no jeans, chinos, cargo styles). Skirts must be worn in the correct fashion e.g. not rolled up.
  
  
• Footwear: Plain black trainers or shoes (boots not permitted). PE trainers must be separate from school shoes.
  
  
• Accessories: Hijabs (if worn) must be plain black or cream. Jewellery limited to one watch (not smart) and one small stud per ear.
  
  
• Outerwear: Zip-up jackets may be worn to school in bad weather but not instead of jumpers/blazers. Hoodies are not permitted.
  
  
• Appearance: Extreme hairstyles, unnatural colours, acrylic nails, false eyelashes, and heavy make-up are not allowed. 

We understand that genuine issues may arise. In these cases, please contact the school via note or email (admin@braunton.academy). Students may borrow items from our Pastoral Support team if needed. 

Consequences for Not Having the Full and Correct Uniform Without Prior Parental Communication

• Demerits leading to break-time detentions.
  
  
• Placement in the Internal Exclusion Room until uniform is corrected.
  
  
• Confiscation of jewellery.
