Braunton Academy Celebrates GCSE Success

Braunton Academy is proud to celebrate an excellent set of GCSE results this summer, reflecting the hard work, dedication and resilience of its students and staff. The outcomes demonstrate strong achievement across a wide range of subjects and highlight the commitment shown by this year's Year 11 cohort throughout their time at the Academy.  

This year, students achieved 47 Grade 9s, 94 Grade 8s and 149 Grade 7s, meaning there were 290 grades awarded at Grade 7 and above, a fantastic achievement across the cohort. Braunton Academy is also extremely proud of students' success in vocational qualifications, with 14 students achieving the highest grades possible at Level 2 Distinction and above. 

This remarkable cohort began their secondary school journey during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, facing unprecedented challenges from the very start. Their success today is not only a reflection of academic achievement but also of their strength, adaptability and perseverance through difficult times.  

Fay Bowler, Principal of Braunton Academy, praised the achievements, saying: 

"Today is a day of real celebration, and I could not be prouder of our students. These fantastic GCSE results are the culmination of years of hard work, determination and resilience. Our young people have shown tremendous commitment to their studies, overcoming challenges and seizing opportunities, and they thoroughly deserve this success. 

I would also like to recognise the dedication of our staff, whose expertise, encouragement and unwavering belief in our students have helped them achieve their very best. Equally, we are incredibly grateful to families and carers for the vital support they provide throughout their children's education. This success belongs to our entire school community. 

It is a privilege to work in a school where such outstanding achievements are made possible by the talent, ambition and character of our students. While we celebrate the excellent grades they have earned today, we are equally proud of the young people they have become. Throughout their time with us they have developed qualities such as kindness, resilience, integrity and a determination to succeed, which will serve them well in whatever path they choose next. 

As they move on to the next stage of their journey, whether that is sixth form, college, apprenticeships or employment, we hope they carry with them not only the knowledge and skills they have gained in the classroom, but also the confidence, values and character that will help them make a positive difference in the world. We wish them every success for the future and look forward to seeing all that they will go on to achieve." 

There were some truly exceptional individual achievements among this year's results. Poppy, Helena and Suki all achieved a maximum Grade 9 in five subjects. Dylan and Ryley both achieved four Grade 9s, while Isaac and Mia achieved three Grade 9s. Among this year’s successes was Year 9 student Judah, who demonstrated exceptional aptitude by completing GCSE Computer Science two years early and securing a Grade 9, the top grade attainable.  

These outstanding accomplishments reflect the dedication, ambition and hard work demonstrated by students throughout their time at Braunton Academy. 

As we celebrate the accomplishments of our Year 11 students, we also look ahead with optimism to the next cohort preparing for their GCSEs in summer 2027. With the continued support of our staff and the strength of our school and wider community, we are confident that next year will bring further success.
