On Wednesday 5th March, three of our students went to Pilton Community College for the annual Routes into Language Speaking competition. Cienna (Spanish), Lucy (Mandarin) and Arthur (French) prepared and performed speeches in their chosen foreign languages in front of a panel of 6 judges and a host of students and teachers from the whole of Devon.
Our students were a credit to the school, showing resilience, independence and great communication skills. The quality of performances this year surpassed previous years, making the judgesâ job a hard one! Lucy got runner-up in her (very full) category, and Cienna elicited the most applause, while Arthur got one of the current winnersâ encouragement to come back again next year as she is looking forward to hear him again.
We not only enjoyed listening to a range of languages all day, but were also treated to multilingual and multicultural performances before lunch, with songs and dances that awed us.
Looking forward to taking more students next year and maybe putting on performances of our own too! Thank you to all the students who volunteered and had to be put on the waiting list, unfortunately we are limited to a couple spots per category, but hopefully youâll have your turn next year.
And a big hearty well done to Cienna, Lucy and Artie, you did us proud!
