I’ve joined Braunton Academy this year having spent the past few years teaching at South Molton. Though originally from the Midlands, I’ve lived in Devon for the past 10 years and was drawn here by the sea and the stunning landscapes. Before teaching in schools, I spent a year in France, worked and volunteered for mental health charities in the UK, taught in China, Italy and in various language schools in Devon and had a small craft venture making children’s clothes. When I’m not teaching, I’m usually out walking with my camera, travelling, tending to my numerous houseplants or making something.
I teach English because I thoroughly believe that the right book can change your life. At Braunton Academy, I’m really keen to show students that language and literature are about more than trying to second-guess why a writer chose certain words. My aim is to encourage students to put themselves in the shoes of writers and characters and to let their voice and confidence in analysis and creative writing grow.
I look forward to hearing about our students’ latest reads!
