Aspiration and Achievement at Braunton Academy

22 Aug 2024

Year 11s at Braunton Academy have been celebrating after another extremely successful set of GCSE results. Following recent challenges over the last few years and with grading of exams going back to pre-covid levels, the students have done phenomenally well as a cohort. These results are the culmination of five years of study since joining the Academy.

Overall, there are 36 grade 9s, the highest possible grade, 100 grade 8s and 172 grade 7s. This is a phenomenal achievement and shows the incredible work ethic and resilience of so many of our students. This year’s results have shown strength across all subjects as exam marking and grade boundaries shift back in line with 2019 pre-covid levels. Despite this, Braunton Academy has shown increases in most key performance measures compared to 2019. Commenting on students’ successes, Fay Bowler, Principal at Braunton Academy said:

“These achievements speak for themselves and are a testament to the determination, work-ethic and resilience of both our students and our staff.

Our Year 11s have been a pleasure to teach and will be so proud of what they have achieved. I would personally like to extend my thanks to the students’ parents and carers for their support over the course of their time with us. This is not just a credit to students but to our incredible staff team. Their commitment to the students has been unwavering and has helped so many to thrive and excel and I would like to thank everyone involved.

We are extremely pleased with these results and wish all our students well as they embark upon the next step in their education.”

There were some notable achievements in this year group with Elise achieving seven grade 9s and one grade 8, Bea achieving six grade 9s and two grade 8s, Sian achieving four grade 9s, four grade 8s and an A in A Level Additional Maths, Nel achieving three grade 9s, four grade 8s and a B in A Level Additional Maths, Ryan achieving two grade 9s, three grade 8s and an A in A Level Additional Maths.

Our Year 11s have shown what it takes to be successful and are true role models to our younger year groups who are just as ambitious for their own futures and will no doubt look to emulate their successes.

The students’ pride is well-deserved, and one that is shared with staff and the local community.

We wish all our Year 11s the best of luck as they move on to the next stage of their lives and we look forward to celebrating their ongoing success.
